Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

MarkupWolf is operated by Christopher Czernisz, doing business as MarkupWolf, a sole proprietorship located in Wisconsin. Contact us at [email protected] or P.O. Box 343, Hustisford, WI 53034.

This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

2. What we collect

Account information. Your email address and a password. Passwords are stored as salted hashes by our authentication provider. We never see your actual password.

Business information you enter. Your business name and contact details, your price books, your labor rates and markups, and your saved quotes.

Customer information you enter. When you build a quote, you may enter your own customer's name, address, and job details. That information is yours, entered by you, and we store it so the service can produce and share your quotes.

Payment information. If you subscribe, Stripe collects and processes your payment details. We never receive or store your card number. We store a Stripe customer identifier, a subscription identifier, a price identifier, and your subscription status so we know whether your account is on Pro.

Email list. If you sign up for The Markup Howl newsletter, we store your email address for that purpose.

Technical information. Our host records standard server logs, including IP addresses, as part of serving and protecting the site.

3. What we do not do

We do not sell your personal information. We do not sell or share your price books, your rates, or your customer lists. We do not run advertising on the service, and we do not run third party advertising trackers.

4. Why we process this information

To give you an account and keep it secure. To operate the features you use, including price books, quotes, and PDFs. To take payment and manage your subscription. To send you transactional email such as password resets. To send you the newsletter if you asked for it. To detect and prevent fraud and abuse.

5. Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers, and only for the purposes above:

Supabase, for our database and authentication.

Stripe, for payments and subscription billing.

Cloudflare, for hosting, domain, and email routing.

Resend, for transactional email such as password resets.

Beehiiv, for the newsletter.

Gumroad, if you purchase a digital product from our storefront.

Each of these providers has its own privacy policy. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.

6. Quote share links

When you share a quote, the service creates a link that anyone holding it can open without logging in. That is how your customer views the quote. Treat those links as semi-public and share them only with the people who should see them.

7. Cookies

We use cookies that are necessary to keep you logged in and to keep your session secure. We do not currently use advertising or third party analytics cookies. If that changes, we will update this policy first.

8. How long we keep things

We keep your account data for as long as your account is open. If you close your account, we delete your account data within 30 days, except where we need to keep records of transactions for tax and accounting purposes.

9. Your choices

You can view and edit your business profile and your price books inside the app at any time.

You can ask us to export or delete your data by emailing [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any issue. Transactional email about your account is not something you can opt out of while your account is open.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information under your state's law. Email us and we will honor any right that applies to you.

10. Children

The service is for businesses and is not directed at anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

11. Security

We use industry standard measures, including encryption in transit and row level access controls on our database, so that each account can reach only its own data. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Changes

We may update this policy. If we make a material change, we will update the effective date above and, where it affects paying subscribers, tell you by email.
